Walking through the Psalms (6)

This Psalm is short, but so packed with emotion, with pleading.  It reminds me of times when, because of my stupidity, or lack of discernment, or just straight up sin, I allowed myself to be hurt deeply.

And it seems that David is crying out from this place of pain, hurting and asking for comfort, but also asking for God to stay His judgement, to not rebuke or discipline (v1).

The Psalm really paints a picture of deep, deep anguish on David's part.  And what does David do?  Again, he runs to God, even though he knows that he deserves punishment (asking for mercy in v9).

How often do we get hurt and blame God?  How often do we, in an effort to find someone to blame, give God one of the few things that is not His...the blame?

God is merciful and gracious and loving and He wants us to run to Him when we hurt.  But we so often turn away and say, "why didn't you save me?"  "Why did you let this happen?"  ...or a very common demand, "Where are you?  Why are you so silent?"

Sometimes we can't hear God because we aren't listening.  But there are times when God steps away from us, not in Love, but in presence.  And maybe it's more that He in no way moves away from us, but rather, conceals His presence, so that we cannot sense Him.  And in those times, when God is silent, and we cannot feel His presence, He is sending us a very, very, very clear message.

Come and find me.  Seek me out.  See and feel the deep need in your soul, the need for me.  COME AND FIND ME!

God allows us the beautiful blessing of hunting, of looking, of seeking, of chasing, of pursuing after Him.  He is like a nimble forest creature, ghost-like amidst the tall trees and peaks of the high mountains...so close and yet so untouchable.  These times are hard, but He has NOT abandoned us.

He simply wants you to come and find Him.  To call out to Him in prayer...to persevere in spirit, not so that you will be hungrier for Him and His word and His presence.

You are already hungry.  But unless He allows you to see just how broken and hungry you are, you will accept His presence as your right, His voice as your due...and His salvation as your just reward.

Do not mistake our God.  He is neither tame...nor toothless.

He is fierce and wild, tender and loving, mighty and terribly, terribly capable of giving you exactly what you need, at all times.

So seek Him out...while he may be found.  His love for us is endless, but the time He has given us in this World is not.

Seek Him.
