“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life
for one’s friends.”
-John 15:13
I don’t think anyone will disagree with me if I say that its
important for us to love other people.
But something you might not be thinking about very often, and this is
the whole idea of what I’m about to say………
…the point of doing this famine is for two reasons. One, the super obvious, is to raise
money. Its incredibly powerful to be
able to send our funds to these people that really need this money.
But there is another reason.
No, it probably isn’t something surprising that you haven’t thought of
yet. But it is important. We’re here to step outside of ourselves. Now…you might be thinking, wow…hrm…gee Colby,
that sounds…um…either physically impossible, or incredibly gross.
When I say step outside of yourself, I’m talking about
taking a look at your life, what you have to deal with, what makes life hard for
you, and comparing it to these people that we’re going to get to see in these
videos.
Step outside of your comfort zone. Put yourself in a new place. A place that is cold. Where there is no food. Where you and the people you love are hungry,
tired, cold, sick. And the decisions you
make every day will decide whether or not you live or die.
This isn’t about making you feel guilty. If God wants to make you feel guilty he’s
going to. But what I’m hoping for is
that you will know more about what our brothers and sisters in Christ are going
through around the world, and how we can help.
J
This is about God, in the end, and I’m excited to see you
all here.
